Carlsbad Beach

Brad and I hung out at the beach a bit the Friday before Pete & Heather's weddding. We had our cameras with us anyway, so we took a few pictures.
I particularly like this one. In the past, I've tried to take photos to use as wallpapers but was always unhappy with the sharpness of the image or the amount of noise. This photo didn't need any editing, and it's sharp enough for me to use on my 24" monitor. (You can download the original photo and use it for your wallpaper, too!)
This one is kind of neat, too. I had some trouble finding the composition I wanted, but I think I managed to capture it here.
Kathy and I went up to Malibu to check out a potential wedding site one weekend. We're glad we did, because it was a lot smaller than it looked in the pictures. Not wanting to waste the trip, we headed down to the beach to take some pictures by the pier.
As I was figuring out poses and lighting this guy came up to us and offered to take our picture. I refused at first, but as he started talking it became apparent that he was a professional photographer.
So I gave him my camera and let him pose us. The pictures turned out great!
Afterward, I took a few more of Kathy on the other side of the pier. I'm pretty happy with how those turned out, too.
Graduation, work, and ...

It's been almost a year since I last blogged. You haven't missed much - well, except maybe the whole graduating from college thing. After graduation, I started working (surprise surprise). But today, Valentine's Day 2007, six years after Kathy and I started dating, I have some new and exciting news to write about. =D
I give you...
Jon's pictorial guide to proposing marriage
Step 1. Go buy an engagement ring.
Step 2. Find a romantic spot to propose.
Step 3. Ask: "Will you marry me?", and wait for her to say "Yes".
Step 4. Have a friend camp out with a zoom lens and take pictures of you proposing.
Step 5. Surprise your new fiancée with the pictures, then show your friends and family.
